The QA Developer will be a key member of the agile web development team responsible for developing RapidFish, a comprehensive web-based software suite for management of seafood production and related automation software.  Over 50 factories around the globe depend on RapidFish to manage their operations ranging from purchasing and order management, through manufacturing execution, to inventory and shipping.  In addition our automation software provides cutting edge solutions ranging from high precision robotic portioning to AI-powered computer vision. As we build on this foundation, our ambition is to play a leading role in the digital transformation of the seafood industry by providing innovative methods to store, connect, analyze, and enhance production data.

Valka is looking for an organized critical problem solver who would like to play a key role in driving the testing and coordination of QA efforts across our web and automation software applications. This role will build, update and maintain all project testing documentation, including test plans, test cases, and progression status to ensure effective testing coverage throughout the project. The core focus of this position will be to work closely with all multi-functional teams to ensure the business is successful in delivering high quality software to production consistently and expertly. This work will be done in collaboration with project managers, embedded software engineers, mechanical engineers, sales & marketing staff, as well as customers. This position calls for a self-motivated individual with strong technical prowess, communication skills, and a deep interest in Software Quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement test plans, test cases, risk analysis, and integration testing

  • Define test coverage, execute functional tests, evaluate and report quality and stability of new features

  • Triage and debug difficult problems, driving them to resolution, with the aim of achieving excellent user experience

  • Execute functional system, integration, and regression tests

  • Identify, escalate, and communicate key build quality issues, software defects, environmental issues and work towards resolution in partnership with development, project management and business teams

  • Assess the status of the release, and help make sure that the release goes out on time with high level of quality

  • Update and use documentation pages extensively for open knowledge sharing

  • Continuous learning and maintenance of technical know-how

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline and relevant work experience

  • Responsible, reliable team player that enjoys working in a collaborative agile environment

  • Experience with REST API testing/automation

  • Familiarity with open-source tools like Git and Bitbucket

  • Database such as MySQL, Oracle, Postgres etc.

Experience

  • Validated experience in full QA lifecycle of SW products

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in Software Testing

  • Firm understanding of QA methodologies and practices

  • Experience in developing test plans, assessing risk, filing appropriate defects, and providing relevant data for test reporting

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

  • Ability to triage problems, prioritize accordingly, and propose a resolution

  • Detail oriented, analytical, and creative thinker with passion for quality processes

  • Experience working in fast paced environments
