Principal Engineer

The Cloud Innovation team in NetApp Iceland is working on building proactive and experimental solutions for our customers to enable them to integrate GenAI into their workflows that they have on our existing cloud services today, as well as building out new architectures to accelerate the growth of NetApp’s first party services in Google and Azure.

As a Principal Engineer you will have a leading role in designing and implementing these solutions, working with bleeding-edge technology to help deliver value to our customers. You will join a diverse mid-sized team of experienced developers combining API, GenAI, Cloud, database, Kubernetes and UI/UX experience.

Job requirements

Work on developing experimental and important features in co-operation with our partners (Microsoft and Google) and our customers. Work with other principal engineers on designing our solutions as well as discovering ways to use new technologies to help the team reach set goals. Understand and provide guidance on our solutions, end-to-end. You will play a key role in helping the team deliver substantial value to our customers.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• BSc degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 12+ years’ experience in software development
• Great communication skills in English (both verbal and written)
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies

Preferred qualities

• Experience in Golang, Rust, Javascript, C# or an equivalent language
• Experience in working with Git or other version control systems
• Systematic problem-solving approach and sense of ownership and drive
• Experience in scaling systems, preferably with cloud native technologies, i.e. Kubernetes
• Readiness to share your expertise and knowledge
